"The Book of Lord Shang" is the foundation and core of the feudal autocratic social system for more than 2,200 years in China. It is one important theoretical framework of Xi governance in China. It is a compilation of works by the school of Mr. Shang Yang more than 2,200 years ago, during the Warring States period (475BC – 221BC) and Qin dynasty (221BC - 206BC). Qin dynasty is the first empire of China with a highly centralized power system and the emperor himself the supreme leader of the state. Mr. Shang Yang leads the famous “Shang Yang Reform” to set up the cruel top-down law enforcement system for Qin dynasty.
The book was previously a banned book available only to emperors and few academics supporting the heirs of the emperors. It is also widely considered a book written by the devils.
The Book of Lord Shang lists the five principles of enslaving its people, which are summarized as follows:
To fool the people: unify their thinking, crack down on any doubt or any different voice. If everyone has their own ideas, there will be endless debates and disagreements.
To weaken the people: centralize the state power while deprive the power from ordinary people. The way to stabilization and harmony of a country is to focus on weakening its people. If everyone is wealthy and strong, they could pose a threat to the rulers and be difficult to manage.
To exhaust the people: keep the people busy with tasks in their entire life, making them tired and struggling to survive, so that they have no time nor energy to focus on anything else.
To humiliate the people: induce people to give up self-esteem and self-confidence, always make people struggle with feelings of inadequacy or insecurity, break down the trust-building among the people, destruct the interpersonal relations via encouraging people to report, harass or tarnish on each other, living in a state of constant fear. If people are scattered, they individually could not pose a threat to the state.
To impoverish the people: besides the necessities to make a living, deprive them of their surplus wealth, for example, to embezzle the wealth from the rich or to purposefully produce inflation. Poverty usually leads to a lack of ambition and motivation. Make people “willfully” become a cell of the powerful social body.
If these five principles do not work, kill the people.
This is the guideline of governing internal affairs of China. I will summarize the guideline of governing external affairs, including wars, later.
